Shankar’s movies always make news. More so, if it stars Tamil superstar Rajnikant. Even today, people talk about the hype their earlier film together, Sivaji, created. Shankar was to direct Robot next, with Shah Rukh Khan. To be made in Hindi by his production house, the film was officially announced as well. But creative differences made them fall apart. Then, Rajnikant came to Shankar’s rescue. The film will now be made in Tamil, and dubbed in other languages like Hindi, Telugu and many other Indian languages. The title changed from Robot to Endhiran.
The hunt for the heroine ended when Shankar signed Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who had done a double role in his film, Jeans, way back in 1998. It is rumoured that she was paid Rs 6 crores for the film!
Global recession affected the film’s original budget of 120 crores. London-based producers Aingaran Films International (P) Ltd moved out, and the movie division of Sun TV Network Ltd stepped in to produce the film. Shankar has always been very secretive about his films, not circulating the pictures or revealing the story. But now, the pictures have been officially released.
